Boom! Studios has released a preview of its upcoming debut issue of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic reboot, which we first reported on back in September. Today’s reveals include a pair of brand-new covers for the American Library Assocation’s MidWinter 2019 convention and another for the comic’s second printing.

Boom! Studios Marketing Vice President Arune Singh stated: “Boom! Studios is heading to ALA Midwinter with a guarantee for every librarian – you’ll leave our booth with more than one new book perfect for the patrons walking through your doors every day. We’re excited to meet each of the librarians making such a huge impact in their communities by offering them different limited edition exclusives, meet & greet opportunities with some of our most popular creators, an exciting selection of graphic novels from our diverse library, tasty treats and more each day!”

Boom! Studios Executive Editor Jeanine Schaefer said: “Willow is the heart of the Scooby gang but as devoted fans of Buffy know, she has a dark and deadly side to her as well. Kaiti had no problem at all handling both sides of Willow: both the gentle, fuzzy but brave Scooby and the deep, dark evil version lurking within the vampire. Now it’s just up to fans to choose who they really are deep down inside and pick a side.”

The 32-page full-color comic is written by Jordie Bellaire & illustrated by Dan Mora, with series creator Joss Whedon acting as story consultant. The main cover art is from Mondo illustrator Matthew Taylor, with variant covers by Kevin Wada, Royal Dunlap, Becca Carey, Jen Bartel, two pairs of matching Willow covers by Miguel Mercado & Kaiti Infante, an ALA MidWinter 2019 exclusive cover by George Schall, and a second printing cover by Amelia Vidal:

While Buffy the Vampire Slayer issue #1 won’t be released until Wednesday, January 23rd, it’s now available on preorder for just $3.99:

The issue’s second printing will be available on Wednesday, February 20th.

Synopsis:

This is the Buffy Summers you know, who wants what every average teenager wants: friends at her new school, decent grades, and to escape her imposed destiny as the next in a long line of vampire slayers tasked with defeating the forces of evil. But the Slayer’s world looks a lot more like the one outside your window, as this new series brings her into a new era with new challenges, new friends… and a few enemies you might already recognize. The more things change, the more they stay the same, as the Gang – Giles, Willow, Xander, Cordelia and more – faces brand new Big Bads, and a threat lurking beneath the perfectly manicured exterior of Sunnydale High, confirming what every teenager has always known: high school truly is hell.
