Video game publisher Focus Home Interactive has released the retail version of Vostok Games’ battle royale title Fear the Wolves. We first reported on the game back in June of last year, and two months later, it entered Steam’s Early Access program. Just last month the game received a massive update which made two-player teams the default game mode, among many other enhancements.
Today’s version 1.0 milestone also brings some changes, including the introduction of Artifacts, rare items that give the player enhanced powers. Examples include “Wolf Heart” which allows the player to control wolves and “Spore” which allows the player to see through walls. However, acquiring these artifacts is no easy task, “Wolf Heart” can only be retrieved by killing the new super-powered “Wolf Matriarch” mutant and “Spore” requires a trip to the highly radioactive “Anomalous Lockdown” zone.
Accompanying the game’s releases is a minute-long launch trailer chock-full of in-game action, including both PvP and PvE battles:
A PvP first-person battle royale game at its core, Fear the Wolves also incorporates survival (radiation) and PvE (mutated wolves) mechanics, along with randomized maps.
Fear the Wolves is now available on PC for just $19.99, however, the game is free to try and 50% off to purchase until Tuesday, February 12th:
The game drops players, as duos or lone wolves, into the oppressive environments of a radiation-ravaged Chernobyl spread across a section of the 25km2 map.
To secure the top spot, players will need to worry about more than just other survivors. Across the hostile wastes, everyone is threatened by deadly anomalies and the dynamically-changing weather – voted for by dead players acting as spectators. With each game in a new part of Chernobyl and at a different time of day, survivors must stay on their toes and constantly adapt to new situations.
