Capcom has announced that its recently released remake of Resident Evil 2 will come with the free downloadable content “Ghost Survivors”. According to the press release, “Ghost Survivors”:
Explores ‘what if’ scenarios around victims of the Raccoon City outbreak and what happens if they survive the events of the main game. Turn the clock back a little, and challenge the fate that awaits an U.S.S. agent, the daughter of the mayor, and a gun shop owner.
The company promised that the DLC is “coming soon”, though that remains to be seen, as 2017’s Resident Evil 7: Biohazard also launched with the promise of free DLC, “Not A Hero”, to be released in the Spring of that year, but it wasn’t delivered until around Christmas.
That’s not a say that Resident Evil 2 (2019) doesn’t already have its fair share of extra goodies. Like the original game, if you beat the game as Leon and continue as Claire (or vice versa), you’ll be treated to a very different, more difficult play-through on the second character. Additionally, once both characters have completed the game, the “4th Survivor” (AKA HUNK) and “Tofu” modes from the original game have also been redone.
The game is a total remake of the original 1998 game, built with the company’s modern RE Engine which powered Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.
Along with the $59.99 standard edition of Resident Evil 2 (2019), there are also Deluxe and Collector’s editions. For just ten dollars more, the Deluxe Edition comes with the Extra DLC pack which includes two character costumes for Leon and three for Claire, the Albert character model, the Samurai Edge sword, and the 1998 soundtrack which can be enabled in-game. Physical copies have reverse box sleeve artwork featuring Claire instead of Leon.
Meanwhile, the $129.99 Collector’s Edition – which we originally reported on during San Diego Comic-Con 2018 – includes everything in the Deluxe Edition plus a twelve-inch statue of Leon, “Ben’s File” art book, the game’s new soundtrack, and a poster of the R.P.D. renovation blueprint.
Resident Evil 2 (2019) was released last Friday, January 25th on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One:
Rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield travel to Raccoon City to investigate the mysterious events taking place, only to find themselves trapped in a zombie nightmare from which they must escape. Their collective experiences piece together a comprehensive story revealing the reprehensible actions of Umbrella Corporation, which has thrown Raccoon City into a chaos of zombies and horrifically mutated monsters.
