The Witcher’s “Geralt of Rivia” Is Coming To ‘Monster Hunter World’

Capcom has announced that it has partnered with CD Projekt Red to bring The Witcher‘s “Geralt of Rivia” into Monster Hunter: World. From the details we’ve seen, this sounds more like a crossover event than Monster Hunter: World simply adding a Geralt character to the game. According to the press release: “Unique quests will offer a brand-new type of gameplay that blends the immersive RPG experience of The Witcher 3 with Monster Hunter: World.”

Doug Cockle, the actor who voiced Geralt in The Witcher has even been called in to record brand-new dialogue for the Monster Hunter World collaboration.

The nearly minute-long trailer starts off with some in-game footage of Geralt facing off against enemies from Monster Hunter: World, followed by a cinematic of Geralt arriving in the Monster Hunter: world universe via a portal. The entire trailer is narrated by Geralt:

The Witcher‘s Geralt of Rivia is coming to Monster Hunter: World sometime early next year as a free update for PlayStation 4 & Xbox One, with a PC release to follow soon after.

Monster Hunter: World was released back in January for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and it’s now available for just $29.99:

For those who prefer to try before you buy, Monster Hunter: World will be holding a week-long free trial period for PlayStation 4 & Xbox One players starting today at 7:00pm Eastern and running through Monday, December 17th at 7:00pm Eastern. The demo will be restricted up to 3-Star quests and Hunter Rank 4, though progress made in the demo can be transferred to the full game if purchased.

In Monster Hunter: World, players take on larger than life monsters in a variety of vast, living, breathing ecosystems either solo or with up to three other hunters via online co-op, complete with drop-in functionality, a first for the series. The story follows the journey of the elder dragons as they begin their once a decade migration across the sea to a land known as the New World in an event referred to by inhabitants as the Elder Crossing. As part of the Guild’s Research Commission, players must embark on a grand journey to this massive, mysterious land and uncover the secrets behind this phenomenon.
