The teaser trailer for the upcoming Ghostbusters movie has been officially released – it was an Entertainment Weekly exclusive yesterday. The nearly minute-long video is set on a stormy night where some kind of ectoplasmic energy is arcing inside a spooky barn. The camera then enters the barn to reveal the Ghostbusters‘ iconic vehicle ECTO-1 underneath a tarp:
According to IMDb, the film is written & directed by Jason Reitman, the son of franchise creator & Hollywood comedy legend Ivan Reitman, along with co-writer Gil Kenan, who’s background is more horror with titles such as Monster House, City of Ember, 2015’s Poltergeist remake, and MTV’s Scream TV series.
Per the Entertainment Weekly report, this new chapter of the franchise will be set in the original Ghostbusters universe and not the alternate storyline introduced in the controversial 2016 remake featuring all-female leads. The story picks up approximately twenty years after the events of 1989’s Ghostbusters II, though it’s still unclear if the original cast is returning (sans Harold Ramis who died in 2014).
Ghostbusters is expected to be released to theaters nationwide sometime in the Summer of 2020. Stay tuned as more information becomes known!
