While the Leprechaun series appears to be returning to its roots with SyFy’s upcoming Leprechaun Returns, the lead actor in the first six films, Warwick Davis, is not. SyFy released a teaser for the upcoming film this past St. Patrick’s Day, featuring a new lead actor as the Leprechaun: Linden Porco (pictured left). If the name seems familiar, that’s probably because you’ve seen him in listed among the cast of Channel Zero‘s current season, Butcher’s Block (a SyFy show), where he plays the character Smart Mouth.
Below are a series of Instagram posts from Porco confirming his new gig:
Leprechuan Returns is directed by Steven Kostanski (The Void), written by Suzanne Keilly (Ash vs Evil Dead), and stars Taylor Spreitler as Lila, Pepi Sonuga (Ash vs Evil Dead) as Katie, Sai Bennett (Lake Placid: Legacy) as Rose, Linden Porco (Channel Zero: Butcher’s Block) as the leprechaun, Mark Holton (Leprechaun) as Ozzie, Emily Reid as Meredith, Oliver Llewellyn-Jenkins as Matt, and Ben McGregor as Andy. Leprechaun Returns will premiere on SyFy in March of 2019 (presumably on St. Patrick’s Day).
The film picks up 25 years after the events of the 1993 original, which found a maniacal leprechaun doing whatever it takes (including committing gruesome murder) to track down his stolen pot of gold. The leprechaun menaced Tory Redding (Jennifer Aniston) until he was finally defeated by shooting a four-leaf clover down his throat. Leprechaun Returns finds the leprechaun revived in the modern day when a group of sorority girls unwittingly awaken him while tearing down a cabin to build a new sorority house.
