Today Netflix announced that it has acquired the North American rights to the dystopian sci-fi thriller I Am Mother. The film picked up traction at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, which concluded this past weekend.
I Am Mother is directed by Grant Sputore, written by Sputore & Michael Lloyd Green, and stars Hilary Swank, Clara Rugaard, and Rose Byrne. The “Mother’ robot is designed by effects studio Weta Workshop.
Unfortunately, there was no release date provided, so stay tuned as we learn more!
A teenage girl (Rugaard) is the first of a new generation of humans to be raised by Mother (Byrne), a robot designed to repopulate the earth after the extinction of humankind. But the pair’s unique relationship is threatened when an injured stranger (Swank) arrives with news that calls into question everything Daughter has been told about the outside world and her Mother’s intentions.
